Getting started with your flight training

Are you interested in a career as a Professional Pilot? Go directly to our Professional Pilot section for career training information.

Thinking about launching your dream of learning to fly for fun? Read on to see how you can launch your flying dream in 4 simple steps.

1. Book Your Aviation Medical with an Approved Aviation Medical Examiner

We have an Aviation Medical Examiner who comes into our airport several days a week. This makes it very convenient for you. Just call our Dispatch staff at (905) 477 8110 to make your appointment.

Ask the Aviation Medical Examiner for a Class 3 Medical, which is the one for Private Pilots.

For more details about the medical itself see our FAQ

2. Book your Introductory Flying Lesson

This lesson is also known as a Familiarization Flight or Fam Flight. Call our Dispatch direct at 905 477 8110 and book this exciting experience. You get a taste of flying, a tour of our facilities and the chance to ask your Flight Instructor all your questions about learning to fly.

3. Choose your Flying Program

You can start your training with the Private Pilot Licence, which is what most people choose. Or you can start your training in smaller bites.

For example, you might decide that you want to start with a Recreational Permit.

Or maybe for now you just want to master the skill of taking off and landing an airplane. Then choose our Go Solo Permit Program.

You can have peace of mind about choosing any of these starting points. The training you take in any of these programs all counts towards the next higher goal. So start where it suits you best.

4. Decide when to start your Ground School

Whatever program you choose, you will still enroll in the Private Pilot Ground School. This way if you start with the Go Solo or Recreational Pilot Permit and decide to go on, you don’t need to take another ground school.

So your only real choice is to decide when to attend.

Many people ask us when the best time is to start their ground school. Often they think students must complete the ground school before they start flying.

The truth is you can start your Ground School anytime during your flight training – before, during or after.

If your schedule and budget allows you a choice, start your ground school at about the same time as your flying lessons. For more details on why, see our FAQ When Should I Start my Ground School?

We give you lots of scheduling choices so you can pick a ground school at a time that is convenient to you. Click to see the Private Pilot Ground School Schedule for 2007.

So don’t wait! Call our Dispatch to book your Aviation Medical appointment, and your Introductory Flight and you’ve launched your dream!

P.S. if at any time you want to talk to our staff about getting started, our Dispatchers have all the information you need. That direct line number again is (905) 477 8110. They’re open 7 days a week.
