PROGRAMS AND LICENCES
Private Pilot Licence
Introduction
The Private Pilot Licence is the first official and internationally recognized licence for everyone, whether you are training for a hobby or for a career.
With your newly minted licence, you can carry more than one passenger. Picture yourself flying across the border to an American shopping destination, or to another Canadian city for a weekend. You will be welcomed by the community of pilots in our Buttonville Flying Club. Join in their flying excursions to all kinds of exciting destinations, including Sun n' Fun in Florida, or even the Bahamas!
You set your own training schedule. Typically our customers get a licence in about a year or a year and a half, depending on how much leisure time they can give to training. If you have already completed the Recreational Permit you can finish faster because you can credit all your Rec Permit time to your Private Licence.
And of course you can pay as you go.
Once you earn this Licence, you are eligible to attach ratings to it. When you decide to increase your skills you can move up to a Night Rating or even an Instrument Rating.

Notes
- Times and costs are based on Transport Canada minimum times outlined in the Canadian Air Regulations (CARs 421).
- Actual costs vary with individual student progress.
- Prices subject to change without notice
*If already taken for the Recreational Permit, Ground School needs not be repeated.
The prices above are for the minimum times required by Transport Canada. Realistically, the national average is more like 65 hours of training. Your individual times will vary. For example, people who fly twice a week will make steadier progress with less repetition than people who can only fly once a month.
So a more realistic budget is one that plans for about 65 hours of flying time. You can keep the cost down by spending a lot of solo time in our modestly priced simulator.
Students who are well prepared for their flight lessons will also minimize their training costs. When you start your training ask your Flight Instructor about other ways to minimize your cost.
